The
first thing to do, once you get engaged is to keep in mind
that apart from all the exciting reception knitty-gritties
you need to first ensure that the following are taken care
of:
Marriage Preparation Programme:
A compulsory course must be attended by the bride
and the groom to be, either in Konkani or in English. It is
either a two or three days course that comprises of lectures
to educate the young couple who are to enter in familiy life.
It wont be wise for you to wait for the church readings to
get over before you proceed with the wedding reception details
specially if your running out of time. Its a two year validity
course and hence can be done well in advance. Courses are
conducted in Panjim and Margao. The course is conducted by
the Diocesan Family Service Centre. In Panjim it is held at
Carital Holiday Home, ST. INEZ, organised by the department
of marriage formation Diocesan Family Service Centre, Archdiocese
of Goa & Daman.
Registration of Marriage:
This has to be done at the sub-registrar's office in the groom's
taluka with basic documents including the couples birth and
residence certificates, voters card or passport for identification
and N.O.C.'s (No Objection Certificate's) from the court stating
"no outside opposition" concerning both parties
(i.e., previous marriages or any objection towards your marriage)
Approval from both Parishes:
Each individual must have a good record with his/her respective
parishes. Hence a one day or week's training with their respective
parish priest's about the ethics and familiy values of christian
life is required before the parish priest submits an N.O.C.
(in the brides case) to the grooms church this is needed for
the approval of the reading of the wedding banns which will
be done in both churched three weeks prior to the day set
by the couple. You will be required to give your conformation
certificate to your concerned parish priest, incase you dont
have one than your parish priest will give it to you on request
if you have received conformation in the same church.
