In Goa, the law of marriage is considered as a Civil Contract, solemnized between two persons or different sex, with the purpose of legitimately constituting a family. A person who has previously married and the marriage is not dissolved, cannot marry again. In Goa, marriage is compulsorily registerable. A Civil registration of marriages is accepted as evidence of the marriage in Goa. The following documents are required at the time of Civil registration in Goa:
For Residents in Goa - Marriage Formalities - Recent birth certificate of bride and groom
- Residence certificate of any one of them issued at Panchayat or Mamladar. With these documents parties have to approach the civil registrar (sub registers office)
For Non - Residents in Goa - Marriage Formalities - For foreign nationals permission of court is required.
- If one of the parties is working abroad not able to stay sufficient time in Goa, permission of Government Pleader has to be taken for urgent registration.
